We have a new ‘gymnast’ in our house. Emma’s been saying that she wants to do gymnastics for a while now and we finally signed her up for it. Last Sunday was her first class. Emma was looking forward to going since we told her that we signed her up and I was worried that she might be disappointed but she LOVED it. Here are a couple of photos from the first session.

Today Emma’s preschool went on a field trip to Coney Island. It was Emma’s first ever field trip and she was very excited about going. Parents were required to accompany their children and Jesse went on this adventure with Emma. The kids got two hours of unlimited rides, a picnic lunch and afterwards they went to the beach and got to play in the sand. The first thing that said when she walked through the door this afternoon was “I had so much fun!”
Since siblings were not invited on the field trip Eva and I had our own fun in the City. First we went to our music class. After that she and I headed up to Madison Square Park where Eva had lunch and a snack, got to go and the baby swings(which is always a highlight of her day
), ran around and chased the birds. After the park she and I walked over to a frozen yogurt shop which I thought she would love. Eva was excited about selecting which frozen yogurt and fruit topping she wanted but wasn’t as excited about eating it. After about three spoon fulls Eva decided she wanted to try a smoothie that was purple. The purple color is achieved by blending frozen yogurt and fresh blueberries. While the smoothie was made I was finishing up Eva’s frozen yogurt because at this point she refused to eat it. Unfortunately, after taking a few sips, Eva refused to drink her smoothie as well so I had to finish that too. Needless to say that was my lunch but when we came home Eva snacked on carrots and tomato. At least those are good for her.
Here are a few photos from today. Enjoy.

Thursday Eva went to her pre-preschool class. It’s an hour and a half class that is structured just like a typical preschool day and it teaches little ones and caregivers to separate from each other. Something that both Eva and I need to learn.
At first Eva wanted me right there with her, which is understandable since it was an unfamiliar environment. As the class went on she got used to the place, the kids and the adults and was able to walk away from me and play on her own.
On Friday we went there for the second time and this time I was able to sit close to the door and Eva played by herself and even interacted with other kids a bit. She and I were even able to work out a deal where I left the room for a minute and she stayed in class. I think Eva has an internal clock or something because she opened the door and was calling me to come back in exactly one minute later. But she did stay in class for that one minute and didn’t cry, I take it as a very good sign. Next week we will try for two minutes.
Here are a few photos from Thursday’s class.

Today the girls went to their new ballet class. I was told that I couldn’t stay in the room during class (I was able to do that previously) so Eva and I had a little talk at home. She knew that I would have to stay outside and surprisingly was ok with that. Thankfully there is a big window and I was able to look in on the class and take some photos.
Their class is small, there’s only two students in it:Emma and Eva, which is nice. I was told by the teacher that it’s usual for the beginning of the semester and that more students will sign up later on. I am in no hurry for that to happen, I kind of like all the attention my kids are getting in class.

Happy second week of September! Wow, I can’t believe it’s already the second week of the month. Pretty soon it’ll be December and we’ll be getting ready for Hawaii. We really can’t wait for that but for now we’ll keep ourselves busy with a variety of activities all of which are starting this week.
The first one is something that Emma has been waiting for for a while, her preschool. Today was the first day of school. This year Emma will be in preschool in the mornings and for longer hours. I don’t like feeling rushed in the mornings and today was a test for what it’s going to be like until the end of the school year. I was pleasantly surprised at how mellow our morning was. I have a feeling it’s because we get up at 6:30 am but it did give us plenty of time to get ready. Emma was so excited that she didn’t even want to eat breakfast, she just wanted to get dressed and go as soon as we got up. She was worried that she’ll be the last one there. I convinced her to eat and then we got dressed and were out the door but not before we took a few photos. It’s the first day of school I couldn’t not take pictures.

Emma is in a new group at preschool this year but she knew a couple of kids form before and, i think, that comforted her. But Emma being Emma made friends as soon as we got to her classroom. Eva and I stayed for about 20 minutes, I wanted to make sure Emma was ok before I left.

Eva really enjoyed playing with toys in the classroom and I had a hard time getting her to leave, especially since the schools indoor playground is right next to Emma’s classroom.
After I was finally able to pull Eva away from the playground, she and I went to her first ever gymnastics class. When we got to her class Eva decided that she didn’t want to follow directions of the coaches but instead she just wanted to run around and do her own thing. But after a few minutes she got interested enough to give it a try. I think she loved it. She got to run around a bit, try a balance beam and even jump on a trampoline. Eva was a bit uncertain about the balance beam at first, she wanted to hold my hand but on her second try she decided to it all on her own. I think Eva impressed the coach because she said, with a little bit of a surprise, that Eva “is so focused.” But Eva’s favorite part of the class was the trampoline. I got a few pictures but you can’t really see how exciting it was for her to be jumping on it. I have a feeling that next class Eva would go straight for it.

Tomorrow we have a new music class, ballet the following day and then back to preschool for Emma on Thursday and Friday. We also signed Eva up for a pre-preschool class. It’s a class that helps toddlers to separate from their caregivers and gets them ready for preschool. She is pretty excited that she’ll be going to preschool just like Emma and Emma is pretty excited for her.
There will probably be more updates and definitely more photos this week so stay tuned.

The girls love Jesse’s guitars (yes, guitars because a few days ago he bought an electric guitar for himself). As soon as one of us sits down to practice Emma and Eva are right there asking, some times demanding, to let them strum the guitar. Yesterday Jesse let them to actually hold the guitars and play them. Both were really enjoying themselves and Emma kept asking if she’s doing well, but when Jesse asked her if she wants to learn to play guitar she said “no, I want to play the violin.” I guess we’ll have to figure out where to take her for lessons if she keeps asking. Below are a couple of pictures and a video form yesterday. Enjoy!
